Now Hiring · Abilene + Lubbock, TX

Build something good without building it alone.

We’re growing the next section of GoodCounting, and we’re looking for an experienced accounting and tax leader to help build and lead it — a builder, not an empire builder. Real ownership of clients, people, and systems. Genuine autonomy. A team around you, and margin to have a life.

Clarity in your books. Margin in your business. Freedom to do good.

The offer

A third option between owning everything and working inside someone else’s machine.

Most experienced accountants get one path: become more productive, make partner, build a book, eventually sell. We think there’s a better story — and it comes with real trade-offs we’re glad to make.

Autonomy

without isolation.

Ownership

without having to own everything.

Growth

without empire building.

Great work

without making work the whole of life.

The more useful question stops being “What’s my next title?” and starts being “What do I want the next ten years of my professional life to be for?”

The role

Accounting Team Manager / PASBA Section Leader

This isn’t primarily a job for someone looking for another list of returns to complete. You’ll take meaningful ownership of client relationships, develop people, improve systems, and cultivate a healthy practice — and help shape how the section develops rather than simply operate inside a finished system.

You’ll build within an existing organization — shared systems, support, brand, technology, leadership, and teammates — so you get significant autonomy without professional isolation.

What you’ll help own: client relationships, accounting & tax outcomes, workflow & planning, quality, team development, client retention, section health, and appropriate growth.

Full-time · Accounting & tax leadership

Location

In-person, hybrid, or remote — within driving distance of Abilene or Lubbock, TX

An honest fit check

We’d rather be clear than convincing.

We’re not trying to talk you into working here — we’re trying to figure out together whether this is a place you could flourish and help others flourish. So here’s the honest version.

This might be you

  • You genuinely enjoy serving small-business owners.
  • You’re technically capable but don’t need to be the smartest person in every room.
  • You like building things and developing people rather than remaining indispensable.
  • You want meaningful autonomy, and believe responsibility and freedom belong together.
  • You care about excellent work but don’t believe work should consume everything else.
  • You prefer relationships to transactions.
  • You want growth — but don’t need to build an empire.

This probably isn’t

Not moral judgments — just honest signals of fit.

  • Your primary goal is maximizing personal production.
  • You need your own book of clients to remain exclusively yours.
  • You equate leadership with control.
  • You enjoy competition more than collaboration.
  • You believe extreme hours are simply what ambitious professionals do.
  • You want complete independence from teammates.
  • Your biggest professional ambition is becoming important.
